Since its inception in 2013 by legendary Toronto DJ and producer D-Unity, Unity Records has been making a serious impact on the underground Tech House and Techno scene. Already boasting a decent roster with the likes of UMEK on board, this summer Unity Records has delved into the dark recesses of Italy’s vibrant underground techno scene to bring us music from the new boys. The “Lost Idea” EP brings to Unity Records a collaboration between Italian duo Kasbah Zoo and techno pioneer OniWax, no strangers to each other from their work together on their record label ZooTechnique.

Comprised of two tracks, “Lost Idea” delivers an effective if a bit underwhelming dose of techno. Both have a very unique voice sample technique which gives them a surreal creepy feeling, a dark feeling… a feeling of the underground. The first song titled Lost Idea has a powerful minimal bassline from the start almost continuously accompanied by the dark otherworldy voice, and for the entirety of the track retains a minimal downtempo feel. The second track, Blowing Monster is definitely more upbeat with a few more elements put into the bassline. Again the voiceover takes center stage but there is a noticeable intricacy to the beat which separates it from the first track on the EP. All in all the EP is very dark and deep, and well worth the listen for fans of underground techno.
