ALBUM: Emancipator releases new “Dusk to Dawn”

Emancipator (Doug Appling) sold out over 21 headlining shows in 2012, including venues like San Francisco’s Mezzanine, NYC’s Highline Ballroom, and Denver’s Ogden Theater, was praised by The New York Times and toured with Pretty Lights. However it is clear that 2013 will be his biggest year to date, kicking off with the release of his third album ‘Dusk To Dawn’ and has started his 44 date North American tour.

Blending lush, warm, organic electronic sounds, with hip-hop and classical Americana, might not be an easy or obvious choice, but the classically-trained Emancipator does just that, creating a natural mix of beats and melody that is all his own. On-stage, Appling performs with the violinist Ilya Goldberg, creating a dynamic and captivating live show that reinforces the fusion at the heart of Emancipator’s music.

His previous two albums ‘Soon It Will Be Cold Enough’ and ‘Safe In The Steep Cliffs’ showcased the luxuriant blend of instrumentation and drums that his rapidly growing and diverse fan-base has come to love. Minor Cause, and Dusk To Dawn, continue where Emancipator left off.

Throughout Minor Cause Appling’s beats and piano draw you forward, before Goldberg’s beautiful strings are introduced, raising the urgency and bringing the track to its crescendo. It’s a fitting lead single, illustrating the inimitable and ever-engaging blend of beat, harmony and melody that underpin Emancipator’s music.

Minor Cause has been accompanied by a music video shot in the breathtaking Oregon forest, Appling’s home state, directed by adventure photographer, Ben Moon.

Dusk to Dawn is a journey of spine tingling tracks, where Emancipator a.k.a. Doug Appling and Violinist Ilya Goldberg blur the lines of hip-hop, rock and trip-hop with rhythms that ignite the soul. -Vibe

His latest track “Minor Cause” does not sway or disappoint die-hard fans. The tune is composed in the classic Emancipator style. Mystical strings and piano drive the song forward while a traditional trip-hop beat chugs along in the background. – Ear Milk

Just lay back and bite into Doug Appling’s tracks of violin riding crisp beats and get sucked in to his time-warping flow. – Dig Boston

Die hard fans of his will be happy with the new release. While keeping to the same formula that has gained him such a loyal following, Appling still pushes boundaries and his new material will provide the same excitement as the first time you heard “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough To Build Fires”. – Global Dance Electronic
