This is the first time Trap Music has hit the Catwalk in the Lincoln Centre during NYFW. Producer/DJ Nima Yamini made a fashion statement and dared to bring Trap Music into the Lincoln Centre during this prestigious fashion show. Rafael Cennamo presented a lineup full of rich gowns, which was inspired by the Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors, which were artfully draped, embroidered or wrapped around the body. Chunky hand-painted gold cashmere knits, worn over several gowns, served as a new kind of evening jacket.
“I thought it was surreal being able to play a set inside The Lincoln Centre, let alone Trap Music.
Then to have the mix premiered by Jay Z’s blog “Life+Times” is a whole other level of excitement.” – NIma Yamini
Nima’s NYFW Mix for designer Rafael Cennamo’s show, features artists such as XXYYXX, Brazilian Girls, Melaaz, Peaches, New Young Pony Club, Sebastien Tellier, Make The Girl Dance, Flosstradamus (www.flosstradamus.com) and Major Lazer. The NYFW Mix starts off with the slow enduring sounds of Brazilian Girls – Homme with sexy french lyrics, transitioning into Melaaz – Non, Non, Non which is a french take of the Dawn Penn reggae classic No, No, No. The Mix then slows down to artist XXYYXX – About You into XXYYXX – End Of Time which has an intricate sound, making it ear-gasmic. New Young Pony – Ice Cream then lifts up the sounds with a playful dance-punk sound, finishing off with the Trap sounds of Flosstradamus, Major Lazer, Make The Girl Dance and Peaches.
Trap and high-end fashion have finally collaborated with a successful response, even catching the attention of Jigga man. Listen to the Nima Yamini NYFW 2013 Mix here:
