You ever have those dreams where you’re floating or flying? It gives you that really cool feeling in the pit of your stomach. You are overwhelmed with that feeling of satisfaction. The feeling of excitement and jubilance. You are letting go of your problems and rising above obstacles. You experience a new found freedom, gaining a new perspective. I guess that’s where Higher comes into play. This song gives you those feelings. It is truly an uplifting track.
The track begins with the generic progressive house, plucked chord repetition. We are blessed with the glorious voice of Daphne. For those of you that have not heard her before, think LIGHTS and Carly Rae Jepsen mashed together, topped off with a little touch of electronica. Her voice almost gives this Progressive House track a ‘Pop’ feel. However the melody and synth production doesn’t stray far from good ol’ Progressive goodness.
As the song carries you, the lead chord synth’s filter frequency slowly rises, much like we see it lots of Progressive House, and of course we can’t forget about luscious side chaining to pump the dance floor with euphoria. What’s next? Of course a snare build up with a dragged out note of Daphne’s previous lyric, exactly what you’d expect to happen. The song is a bit generic. You feel like you’ve heard it before. A progressive melody accompanied by a pretty piano and a bright female vocalist. But what’s wrong with that?
The song finishes at 4 minutes and 15 seconds, the perfect time for an intro, 2 build ups and 2 great dance drops. Both drops in the song are exactly the same. Both equally as long, both equally as loud, both equally as awesome.
Even with its cliche sound and generic feel, it’s still a gorgeous anthem that will get you smiling and moving. That’s the beauty about this formula… it’s dependable. We all love it and just can’t get enough of it. And that’s exactly what i predict will happen to this track this summer. We just won’t be able to get enough of it.
