Thursdays have become the new Saturday in Barrie with Sound Empires’ “Empire Thursdays”, a night that showcases local DJ talent and sometimes a theme. This past Thursday, they had Toronto’s finest DJ duo, Manzone & Strong, come and spin alongside one of Barrie’s best local DJs, DJ TJ.

You would think that a club wouldn’t be packed on Thursdays, but when Sound Empire delivers, Barrie, ON responds. DJ TJ started off the night with a powerful set that consisted of some heavy-hitting bangers which got the crowd going.  People started to file in quickly. DJ TJ has been a staple in the electronic music scene in Barrie. He is a resident at Sound Empire as well as The Mansion Nightclub, and he has opened for some massive DJs like Alesso.

Manzone and Strong went on the decks just after midnight. The last time they were here was in September when they played alongside Adventure Club. The time before that was in 2005 (when the club was formerly known as The Roxx). By the time they hit the stage, it was already a full house and the crowd was going wild. Joe and Fab are known for always getting the crowd moving, regardless of where they’re playing. They played a crazy electro-house set, and I had hope that they’d drop a dirty house gem at the end, which they delivered. Lazer Beams by Green Velvet & Harvard Bass, a song I’ve heard them play many times before, topped off my night perfectly.

Manzone & Strong have set a high standard for electronic music in Barrie, and their fans can’t wait for them to be back. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, you should head to Sound Empire and experience it for yourself!
