EVENT PREVIEW: projek: Datsik at the Guvernment 13-06-14 by Amrit Sandhu

On Friday, June 13, projek:Datsik will be hitting Toronto. Amazing bass DJs all appear one night at the infamous Guvernment Nightclub. Get ready for a night of fun, pure energy and a lot of bass as projek: Datsik will leave you breathless.

Toronto’s own Lush has pioneered the drum and bass as well as Jungle scene in Canada, Lush is the DJ’s DJ. He describes his own sound as Jungle at 130, 140 and 175 BPM and it was this sound over 19 years ago that started his passion. The underlying theme of his set is always music with feeling and soul. He has the same razor sharp precision to every set, leaving no space on the dance floor. A true champion of the underground, he always takes risks with new music and setting musical trends. It his unique mixing style that has been his trademark, winning over critics and crowds. It is his connection to the crowd, to the people that has made him unmistakably one of the best DJs in Canada. Knowing that this man has played all over the world and that he continues to be a monster behind the decks, is one of the reasons why you should attend this event. I am ready to bring my dancing shoes and enjoy the vibes Lush throws on the dance floor given his eclectic sound.

Also hailing from the Toronto, Ruben Reyes A.K.A. Hydee has made a name for himself over the past decade in the Drum and Bass as well as Dubstep community. It was the influence from the UK underground scene that turned on a switch for Hydee and a passion was born. Having been opening for the likes of Nero, Skrillex, Rusko, Skream and Benga as well as playing WEMF, he has built a die hard fan base. His hard work, impressive DJ skill and the high energy have created one of the best DJ across Canada. Currently signed to McKee Agency, he has been on a rise ever since, with the release of his “Bad Boys Remix EP,” it is only the start for Hydee. I know when Hydee hits the decks, no one will be standing still. I wonder what new tricks he has up his sleeve.

Troy Beetles aka Datsik calls Kelowna, British Columbia home, but currently resides in L.A.. Born in 1988, this Canadian Dubstep DJ got his first release back in 2009 and since then has played Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo, Shambhala Music Festival just to name a few. It was in 2009 however that he got his big break, as a number of his tracks went to number one on Beatport. He has played along side with Steve Aoki, Nero, Benny Benassi, Bassnectar,and Rusko, just to skim the surface and he is not done yet.

Influenced by the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, and calling his sound “dark and robotic while having a funky, dirty twist” it what makes Datsik so different. Firepower Records was started in 2012 by Datsik and has signed very talented artists, such as xKore and Bare Noize, amongst others. His debut album “Vitamin D” was released to much praise and since then has caused a storm, leaving behind a thirst for more. I am excited to see this legendary DJ because not only are the fans loyal, as stated by one of the biggest snowboarders in the world, Torstein Horgmo, and a pretty big Datsik fan, said “Datsik is boss”, but Datsik’s just has phenomenal sets that will literally blow your brains out. Get ready for a night of epic proportions and a show you do not want to miss.
