The NightOwls are causing a ruckus throughout the night. Jeff Webb and Mark Beshai form The NightOwls, and hail from the City of Toronto. Their techy sounds have created something unique that Toronto has never seen before. Their signature GoonHouse stylings along with their sounds are making these boys unstoppable. Their mixes on SoundCloud have blown up, recently having over 20,000 plays. Like the Toronto Raptors this season, they are a fresh surprise in the scene and their best is yet to come. Their recent track Get Loose on DBR Recordings is a fusion between house/techno and a groovy beat that you just can’t shake. Look out for The NightOwls as this is the start of something eerily beautiful.

How did you guys meet?
Well we met at the Queensway Food Terminal in Toronto fighting for the last crate of bananas. Neither of us wanted to back down.  Neither of us went home with any bananas.

Where are you originally from?
Places that are shitty.

Who are your favourite artists?

Our favorite aritsts are Shalamar, Hall and Oates, EAST coast Rap, Roger Troutman.

Who do you look up to in the industry?
Charles Barkley, Shaq… his album was tight! Kyle Lowry, Kevin Durant, and Col. Sanders… he is our main inspiration.

How did you get started in the scene?
We are old.

How did you come up with your name?
We were going hard in the paint on Tuesdays, but it was still cold. Peeps couldn’t hang late. Couldn’t keep up with The NightOwls. BIG UP TOTA CREW 🙂

Where are your favourite hot spots in Toronto? Restaurants, clubs, etc
The triple threat aka the mecca aka the combination Pizza Hut/Taco Bell/KFC. Also Popeye’s, they’ve got them biscuits. Speaking of clubs, well, wherever the music is good 🙂 there’s too many to name!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
What spare time?

If there is one word to describe your music, what word is that?
Shit… but people seem to like it.

Goonhouse.

Tell us about your Big Hooters Podcast, how can people find it and how did you come up with that name?

The-NightOwls-Big-Hooters-Ep-39It airs in 9 different countries, It features as much unreleased music from across the globe as we can get our hands on. We do it every 2 weeks. We try to let everyone know all the tracks. We joke around and have a great time making it. You can find archives on our SoundCloud page. The name for our show is play off of our name The Nightowls. Instead of “big hits” we chose big ‘HOO’ters because we are Cheeky Owls.

Parliament House Presents events – explain your role and how it came about, what is the vision for it and how can people get to one?

Parliament House is a family. We started Parliament House in 2013 with our monthly event called LOTION, which was held at Riva on College St. Some months we would do more than one.  It was a great way to build a not exclusionary community. A way to showcase new artists every party.  We like to work with DJs who know how to have a good time and can turn the party out. People can always find out about our events on the Parliament House Facebook page.

Parliament House has also recently launched a label to help get music from our friends and family out to the world. If you would like to come check out a party we are doing one May 17th, 2014 at Andy Poolhall to celebrate our label launch. June 13th, 2014 we have partnered with MPE PROJECTBalance Inc., and HouseJunky for a fundraiser to battle cancer which we be held at Li’ly Lounge.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
There is new news everyday.

What can we expect next from The NightOwls?
Profanity.

Thanks to Jeff and Mark for taking the time to talk with us here at EDM TOR. We cannot wait to see what The NightOwls have in store next!
