Certified Sounds Toronto, will be hosting the city’s first techno boat cruise party on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 aboard the Enterprise 2000. This spectacular event features a b2b set by homegrown talents Nathan Barato and The Junkies and solo sets by Conrad and Chris Larsen.
Few DJs can own more than one genre, but this is one skill that sets Nathan Barato apart from many artists. His versatility allows him to break boundaries and win over fans of many different sounds. For the past 15 years, Nathan has been a favorite in the Toronto scene. In the early years, his innate ability to win the crowd over with his groove scored him gigs at legendary Toronto nightclubs. His musical range dabbles in many genres within the 4/4 spectrum going back to his influence of 90’s garage, and ranging to many spans of current club music. Throughout his career, Nathan has played in cities throughout North America and Europe, but considers Toronto his home base.
The Junkies style has continued to evolve over the years under the influence of various genres of electronic music, ranging from deep soulful house to techno and everything in between. Drawing from these has resulted in a sound of their own both in the studio and in their DJ sets. It’s this sound that has made them a consistent force in the Toronto club scene for over 10 years. They have played alongside some of the world’s most respected artists on a regular basis including the likes of Dubfire, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna and Loco Dice just to name a few. Production and remix work have been fundamental in pushing them forward both as artists and DJs. The duo just never seems to stop releasing and remixing tracks, which have gained massive support worldwide from many of the world’s top jocks.
Conrad emerged from the cities underground house scene in 2011. In his earlier years his musical preference was strictly classic 90s hip hop. Looking up to and influenced both professionally and personally by such artists as The Junkies, Chris Larsen, Nathan Barato and Carlo Lio. He was exposed to a variety of styles of electronic music and sank his teeth into the Deep Tech resonance. Throughout 2011-2014 Conrad consistently continued to emit his sound vibrating through such Toronto venues as The Guvernment, Footwork, Ryze and CODA. During this time he’s been humbled to have been able to perform alongside artists he has long been inspired by such as tINI, Davide Squillace, Martin Buttrich, Dubfire, Philip Bader and Paul Rich. In January 2014, Conrad had the honor of breaking the border and was added to the artists of The BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Shortly after that he released his debut EP titled “Discrimination”, on Yoruba Grooves, which topped off at #3 on Beatport‘s Minimal Top 100 Releases. Being taken under the wing of Toronto’s Platform and with a mind flowing with inspiration, Conrad is sure to continue to deliver on both spectrums.
The boat begins to board at 11.30 a.m. (sharp) at 242 Cherry St. (Pier 35)! There will be BBQ and free giveaways, and an after party later on. Don’t miss the first techno boat cruise of the warmer weather. Dancing to some good techno under the sun, and on a a boat at that…sounds like an amazing Saturday afternoon for us Torontonians who are sick of the cold weather and hybernation!
