Before entering the hall on Thursday, June 5th, 2014, I could hear Latin beats from outside the venue. My evening at The Phoenix Concert Theatre began when I arrived around 10:30 p.m. to Zero Fox Entertainment presents STATIK: Dr. Ozi. As I made my way inside, Dom Dias made sure everyone started dancing and bobbing their heads to Moombahton and Jungle Bass upon their arrival. Recently featured on Moombahton.com, Dias has proved himself worthy of a great opener, which complimented his friends Dr. Ozi very nicely.

Dr. Ozi came on at 11:45 p.m., and by then the hall had filled with dedicated fans and friends. We were ready to go buck wild on the dance floor. Christian began rapping as Nix began the mix, and it did just the trick to get the crowd hyped for the set. I was pleased to hear their Childish Gambino bootleg of The Party and I remember looking into the crowd and seeing people lose their minds over this track. Even when people were tired, and we heard their original track Victimless Crime, it magically gave us the energy to keep those feet movin’.

Their remix of TwoFold’s Skyfire, a collab with AlexAnder, is one of the newer tracks which Christian and Nix were telling me about earlier in the evening as I interviewed them for EDM TOR. It’s always such music to my ears to hear how excited an artist is to play new music for us. The combination of heavy Dubstep and melodic vocals forced the crowd to push up against the stage, almost in a desperate attempt to soak up as much bass as possible. I hadn’t headbanged that much since Figure came through Toronto at The Hoxton a few weeks ago, and that says a lot if you’re familiar with the Dubstep scene.

If you came to the show, you already know how blessed we were to have Nikki Jumper and Matt Kitchen perform Dr. Ozi’s track Look Away live for us. The much-anticipated track received instant attraction from the audience as people began recognizing Nikki as she came to the stage. I could hear many of the girls behind me singing along with her. The vocals felt like glue that bound the people with the music. It felt like the entire crowd was giving it their all for the duration of the song.

Polaris closed the night. He took to the stage around 1:15 a.m. to the faithful dancers still grooving on the dance floor. This set was for the Junglists! Everyone had their own dance space; there were flying feet from the first sounds of Polaris’ set until the lights came on and we were being kicked out. We were settling into the groove, bouncing on our toes ready to continue to rinse out.

Polaris took us on a journey, first playing some hard and fast drum and bass, slowing it down to the more melodic, pull-at-your heartstrings tracks and bringing more bass to come around full circle at the end of the night. Although my feet and neck were already sore from dancing and headbanging, I could not stop moving. He took control of the dance floor, like a true master. Notable songs include WilkinsonRedemption #LazerNotIncluded (Original Mix), Command by Dimension, All My Love by BMotion and Trei‘s Seeds.
