On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, I walked down to Exhibition Place to attend the season opener of Summer Daze, an all day & night patio party at Gossip Restaurant. As I walked, I could hear the booming coming from the nearby Echo Beach where Skrillex‘s Mothership Tour was happening at the same time and I smirked because none of those attendees were going to experiencing an event with vibes anything like those of Summer Daze.
Upon arrival, the venue was absolutely stunning. Surrounded by pristine landscaping, canopied by flowing overhangs and located next to the sparkling lake, this event could not have occurred on a more breathtaking site. The best part of this party was that it clearly made everyone realize the same thing: summer is finally here.
While the sun beat down on the party goers, Shea Marie and Membersonly spun their chill mixes and set the mood for the party which was feel-good, relaxed and hip. The liquor was flowing, the glasses were clinking, the bodies began dancing and the sun began setting. As day turned to night, the entirety of the crowd only slipped deeper into a ‘summer daze’.
An extremely unique element about this party are the creative factors it includes. Since the theme of this particular party was ‘no pants’, overhead were ornamentally hung photographs of bottoms taken by local photographer Maddie Alexander. Not only were they just beautiful to look at, but they were certainly a topic of conversation amongst the crowd. Another artist featured at this party was Willow Weber, a local body painter, who highly entertained guests by painting whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted. She had an ‘anything goes’ theme happening and everyone was digging it.
When the sun set, the deep house kicked up a notch and everyone was drawn to the dance floor. As Maayan Nidam and Kim Ann Foxman came at this party with everything they had, no one could resist dancing in the moonlight to their hypnotic arrangement of tunes. Exhausted from a day full of socializing in the sun and dancing all night, I wandered home with a smile on my face dreaming about the next edition of Summer Daze.
