EVENT PREVIEW: Veld Music Festival 2014

veld
Veld announced the entire artist lineup for the 2014 edition of Veld Music Festival. A few changes from the past two years have left a few fans scratching their heads about the Bacardi Tent and a Canadian producer who is absent from the bill. Unlike past years, the Bacardi Tent will not be dedicated to drum and bass and dubstep on day 1 nor tech house or trance Day 2. Deadmau5 is also missing from the lineup, although he had closing slots during Veld 2012 and Veld 2013.

This year, the Bacardi Tent features artists from across the music spectrum with Iggy Azalea, Waka Flocka Flame, Zedd (main stage), Griz and OVERWERK making appearances. I’m very happy to see that Savoy is once again on this year’s lineup after playing the first Veld in 2012. If anything from the last Glow/Paint party was any indication, I hope that the hint of a ferris wheel from last year will be made a reality this year.

Who Amrit is excited to see (in no particular order)

Milo & Otis
Milo & Otis are back in town, following up from the Mothership Tour with Skrillex. These boys are known for the phenomenon known as trap music, as they are the men behind the exploding trap scene. Originating from Florida and now working in Los Angeles, these boys have a sound that magnetic to the touch. They are signed to OWSLA Records and I cannot wait to see what they bring to Toronto, especially the Bacardi Tent stage. I am looking forward to their set after rave reviews have appeared of Milo & Otis and how they can make the crowd go wild. Definitely do not want to miss them, when they hit the decks and release a sea of pure magic.

DJ Green Lantern
I am very excited to see this legendary hip hop DJ play the Bacardi Tent at Veld. Not only has he worked with Eminem but he has also worked with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, on his Fort Minor releases. His craft is mesmerizing to say the least and his sound sucks you in and does not let you go. It was listening to the Fort Minor LP that I discovered DJ Green Lantern and since then, I have been a fan. Known as James D’Agostino, he is most known for producing the track “Number One Spot” for the rapper Ludacris. He hails just across the border in Rochester, New York, and it was growing up in this community that influenced his sound. I am looking forward just to hear him mash things up and set a fire to the dance floor.

Feed Me
I am also excited to see Feed Me at the Bacardi Tent at Veld due to his exceptional drops. I know I’m not the only one that is going the dance my socks off when he starts his set. I first heard of Feed Me through a friend of mine and since then I haven’t looked back. Feed Me continues to alter my mind and I love every second of it. Feed Me or as he is known as Jonathan Gooch, hails from London, U.K. He is signed to Sotto Voce Records and since 2008 has been putting out hit after hit. His recent hit Last Request featuring Jenna G, sends my soul into a tizzy and I know when he starts to play all ears will be on him, while my heart will be in the music.

MC Flipside
Mike Perri has been in the local Toronto scene for the past six years. Part of being responsible for my new appreciation for house, tech house and deep house, and not having the pleasure to see him on my nightly adventures, I will be damned sure not to miss him at Veld. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few days ago and cannot get enough of what is coming from DBR Recordings and PBR Recordings.

Feed Me
Not surprised by this announcement as Feed Me announced it via his Facebook page that he would be stopping at Veld with his Psychedelic Journey Tour, with Teeth! Fingers crossed the with Teeth! portion makes it to Veld! Either way, I will be grooving from start to finish when he steps to the decks.

Gramatik
Denis Jasarevic hails from Portorož, Slovenia but currently resides in NYC. “Part time musician and full-time comedian”, Gramatik has been producing since 2008. His first release was hip hip and since has moved on to create productions in the chill out, dupstep and electronica genres. Releasing music on his own label, Lowtemp, we can expect nothing but an amazing set in the Tent day 2.

No word yet if CamelBak’s or water bottles are allowed into the festival or what the details are about hydration stations but all that will come in time. What matters most is Veld is months away and that the after parties will announced sooner than later! Contact EDM TOR directly to purchase your tickets.
