The day wasn’t the best for sailing (it was grey and overcast), but the German duo tore up the boat anyway! Performing aboard the M.V. Abitibi off the coast of Vancouver, British Colombia meant that there would be a maximum amount of 350 people aboard the intimate boat party. Not sure what to expect, as I had only seen Cosmic Gate in Toronto at The Guvernment, I was pleasantly surprised with a really chill vibe.
There was no trampling, pushing or general lack of understanding where certain body parts were. Instead, we were treated to an amazing set live under the stars. The duo mainly played songs from their most recent release of “Start to Feel”, of which the tour will reach Toronto on August 15. Tickets are available here now, it is highly recommended!
The set on the water lasted about 4 hours, which was to be considered a warm up to the after party at One Fifty, a club down on the harbour. That being said, this is a review of the set played on board. The great thing about Cosmic Gate, along with many other amazing seasoned performers, is that they know their audience and have a way of connecting with them.
In fact, it was a testament to them that they posted pictures onto their Instagram as they were performing with a shout out to the crowd, we loved it! The only critique that I have is that the whole performance was over too soon, as well as the fact that the boat left late so we should have technically got another hour out of the set.
However, while other acts may value quantity over quality, Cosmic Gate managed to deliver all the songs that I wanted that evening. Uplifting to the point of nearly being melodramatic, what better way than to experience Cosmic Gate but under the stars?
