Something profound is brewing at 794 Bathurst Street. Ok, maybe I should be a little more specific because the venue formerly known, as The Annex Wreckroom seems to be churning out a ton of hard-hitting events lately. Since they officially opened in January, with a homecoming of sorts for local legends Art Department, CODA has hosted a litany of deep/tech house DJs from all over the world, including Joris Voorn, Julio Bashmore, Claude VonStroke & most recently Steve Lawler. The list doesn’t stop there, now in a venue almost double the size of the old Footwork location, they have already booked Funkagenda, Harvey McKay, Uto Karem & Dubfire to spin over the next few weeks.

On Saturday September 6th, the list gets even more exciting as Spanish sensations Chus & Ceballos return to Toronto to headline local legend Addy’s birthday bash. With support from CODA resident Jonathan Rosa, and local DJ Brent Hayward this is bound to be another epic night in the venue’s rookie season.

How can I possibly describe the sound Chus & Ceballos have become famous for? Well that’s easy; since over the past decade they have been crafting their own unique genre-blending beat self-dubbed “Iberican”. A healthy mix of deep, tribal and tech house mixed with a hint of Spanish flavor. Although they didn’t make their first imprint on the global scene until the early 2000s, by then they were already veterans in their hometown of Madrid. Jesús López Esteban AKA DJ Chus had begun spinning by age 16, & Pablo Ceballos by age 15! It was clear that audiences had taken a liking to their respective styles as they quickly developed a reputation all over Europe. In 2001 they cemented their partnership by starting the Stereo Productions record label. Since then this dynamic duo has cultivated an underground following that is nothing short of legendary.

This is an easy sell to the thousands of Torontonians who have been part of the Chus & Ceballos live experience in the past. Performances at major events such as Brrrrr! Winter Music Festival, World Pride @ Dundas Square & the grand opening of Uniun Nightclub have made this duo a fixture in the Toronto music scene. If you haven’t had the chance to see them in the past I suggest you get your tickets now because this one is sure to sell out.
