TRACK REVIEW: Gareth Emery featuring Ben Gold – Javelin by Amrit Sandhu

Gareth Emery needs no introduction. The legendary trance and progressive DJ/producer started off his origins in Southampton, England. At an early age he was trained in classical piano. He lived in Southampton until the age of 26, then relocating to Manchester, where he ran a nightclub, a record label and had a studio. In addition, he has a degree in politics from the University of Warwick. He supports both the Welsh Rugby team and Southampton Football Club, a true sports fanatic. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife Kat Emery.

Ben Gold has been setting sights high since was a kid. At the age of 15, self taught and highly motivated, it took Ben one year for his first original material to be signed to the biggest compilation of the moment “Trance Nation”. Since then DJs around the world took notice, first with Paul Oakenfold who signed him to Perfecto Records and later signed with Garuda Records, Gareth Emery’s record label. Since then he has played around the world, from Ibiza to Australia and including Toronto’s own Veld music festival. He has been booked alongside DJs such as Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Avicii, deadmau5, just to name a few. He currently resides in London, England.

Javelin is a beautiful yet chilling progressive track. It kicks off right away and lifts you up while the beat keeps your toes moving. The first two minutes you expect the beat to continuously move you and continue on in that direction. But the brilliance of Emery and Gold leave you breathless. Before the two minute mark there is beautiful melody that causes you to break away and makes me feel as though I’m floating on clouds. This wild ride through such beauty is a breath of fresh air and then around the two and a half mark the track enters your system as cool water through your veins. The track reverts back to the beat and makes you want to clap your hands along with the melody.

The build up blows your mind as you just get accustomed to the sweet melody. Then the melody rises again and kicks into a high energy section which makes you move and not sit in one place.  There are breaks in the track that allow a calm effect and separate the sections allowing you to drool over the whole track. The simplicity of this track reminds me of greatness in serenity while reminding of power and strength. Gareth and Ben both created a track that is not only perfection but leaves a lasting impression. To any progressive fan or trance fan, you need this track, trust me on this. So get it now and enjoy the ride and these two have put you on.

Emery’s current record Drive is out on Garuda Records, it is based upon a dream of his to drive cross country across the United States via a road trip. This road trip inspired his latest album. While Gold is currently touring around the world and will be in Toronto on August 30^th at Guvernment Nightclub.
