On Friday October 24, The Hoxton is once again hosting a Focus Fridays and plays host to two very auspicious guests. Embrace and Galapagos.fm brings us Stwo and Snakehips from France and the UK respectively, and I do believe this is the first time either of these acts have ever been booked here.
Stwo comes bringing the gift of almost Downtempo tunes ready to make the best of impressions. His songs and remixes on SoundCloud are gaining a lot of buzz. He’s remixed Nas, The Weeknd, Cashmere Cat, Lido, Drake and Keyshia Cole, just to name a few. The way he goes about it is nothing short of elegant, his version of the EDM Trap sound is so easy going that it hits the ear like honeyed tea to sore throat. The man has mad skills he also has an EP coming up very soon, this among other reasons is why he’s on a North American Tour hitting many major city centres on the way as well as making an appearance at Hard Fest: Day Of The Dead. He’s making a name for himself internationally and I believe it’s in every music lovers best opinion to get to know him. He has had 2 EPs released with HW&W Recordings and they’re also up on his SoundCloud. Here is one of my favourite songs of his, its a remix of Lido’s Lost featuring Muri.
But he’s not coming alone, oh no he’s bringing friends. They are the DJ/Production duo Snakehips and they reign from London. This tour they’re on with Stwo also happens to touch down in L.A, Chicago, Seattle, Montreal, Edmonton, Miami, Denver and Ottawa among other places. Snakehips’ style is varied but keeps a theme of being very Rhythm & Bass driven. Their songs mirror that using samples that are cut with a tailor’s precision and dope bass lines that make your hips start gyrating this all comes together with the help of soulful vocals. Their songs remind me of classic sounding slow jams just updated, and done very well. Their half-hour mix on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Monki is a perfect example of how skilled these guys are, their flow is similar to joyride from a dragon with the way it undulates along, swift & smooth transitions teamed up with well placed samples creating and re-creating the pace of the mix. Their debut single On & On was released last year on the Hoffman West Recordings and this year they’ve released a new song with Sinead O’Connell on the same label. They also made a track for Annie Mac called Make It. I recommend any of these songs along with this personal addiction, a remix of Raury’s Cigarette Song, the vocals and structure are what keep me coming back to their SoundCloud page often.
