Back To You is a feel good tune, with a funky lil twist on Mario’s Let Me Love You. This is a reflection of the mesh pot of music including R&B, hip hop, alternative, indie and classica, that influenced the evolution of Fei-Fei as an artist. “Pretty Girls Don’t Hallucinate” is a 13 track album, that paints a picture of the raw emotions she went through over the past year. It is a self exploration of all the pretty little things she saw in her head.
“This is my first album and I’m excited and scared at the same time. It’s a side of me people haven’t seen yet – and that makes me feel extremely vulnerable. I was going through a lot of personal stuff when I wrote these tunes, struggling to find myself and who I was as an artist. I almost didn’t release any of it, because some of it is so weird, expressive and introspective and so real to me. But I’d much rather take a risk and fail miserably then play it safe and sound exactly like everyone else. “
The genre-hopping troublemaker continues to defy convention and experiments with more accessible music like Everything, which ventures outside the box with indie dance fused with delicate vocals, to Born a heavily focused future bass record with fresh euphoric synths. Earlier this summer she released her lead single Little White Lies, which combined rattlesnake snare tips with acid trippy swells, while meshing subtle yet seductive vocals that make your spine tingle.
Fei-Fei has shown the world that she is a force to be reckoned with releasing on tastemaker labels like Symbols, Toolroom, Firepower and Love & Other. Not to mention her prodigious official remix of Banks’ Brain, which climbed to #3 on Hype Machine, and her back catalog of monster mixes for Tiesto, Paramore, Lorde and Blood Orange to name a few.
Currently, Fei-Fei’s new album has an unknown release date.
