EVENT PREVIEW: James Zabiela + more at CODA 25-10-14

This Saturday, October 25th, 2014, White Label Promo and Platform Entertainment combine forces to present James Zabiela alongside Simon Jain, Alberto Jossue & Casualties of Sound at CODA Toronto for all of Toronto’s tile-crushers to enjoy. Its going to be a flurry of Deep House, House & Techno beasts all the way into the wee hours of the morning. The line-up of supporting acts is solid and this promises to be a killer night.

 

James Zabiela is the Producer/DJ who is headlining the night, representing his own label Born Electric, and is coming to us all the way from Southampton in the UK. His style of production is Tech House with a bit of Breakbeat flavor. His sound is well received as he travels to play different venues across Europe and North America. His Resident Advisor Podcast mix is something special, and is a good representation of what it’s like to see him live. I love the way it flows and showcases his style in perfect context. Here’s a link to a song of his that I enjoy called The Healing, it’s really relaxing and is a good example of his skill as a producer.

 

Simon Jain is a local DJ/Producer from Toronto who puts a bit of Techno flair on everything he touches. His own content has that same concept and works really well in my opinion. His songs put you in the dancing mood immediately, clean four-on-the-floor beats that soothe the soul, especially when there’s easy going vocals over-top like in his song Feels Like You. He’s a local favourite and I’m looking forward to his set.

Alberto Jossue is originally from Lima, Peru and he’s making his CODA debut with this upcoming set. He mostly spins Deep/Tech House with strong Progressive vibes. His Liquid Series mixes are aptly named for the way every track melts into the next, making for an easy-going experience that picks up in intensity. I imagine myself drinking and getting ready for a good a night out on the town, or just making my way on a happy mission to anywhere while enjoying this. The way he mixes takes me into a zone, and I’m looking forward to see how he maneuvers in this upcoming set. Casualties of Sound are a duo also based in Toronto, consisting of Ronald Gourlay & Alan Guzman. They’re dudes who believe that the spice in life is what makes it special, so the only thing you can expect from one of their sets is that you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Rhythms that keep you bouncing and basslines that make your backbone slide are their specialty. They are very high energy and their wide song selection are my favourite parts about this duo and their mixes. They’ve played at venues all around Toronto and they killed their set at the Veld Afterparty at CODA. Here’s a link to it in case you happen to have missed it.

This promises to be a good night not unlike most nights at CODA. Dirty beats, good people and enough space to get loose. I’m excited to see how this night turns out because all the acts seem really promising. Its going to be a cold & wet night but we’ll be warm inside be sure to dress warm, the event is 19+ and starts at 10pm.
