Corona SunSets, the sensational global beach festival experience, once again makes waves, this time by releasing a new web series: SunSets Sound of the Beach. Immersive webisodes, now available to view online, capture the journey of six incredible music producers – including DJ 747, AKA Ryan Chan, from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada — who have been selected amongst 1,800 hopefuls to bring the sound of the beach to life. From these six finalists, DJ 747 Ryan Chan turned in an impressive performance, Corona has crowned the winner of the first ever SunSets Sound of the Beach competition: DJ Uppfade.
Vancouver-based 747 Ryan Chan is an up-and-coming Canadian DJ who’s inspired by his own endless travels and exhibits the mutant-like ability to adapt to any environment through his winding House and Techno sets. His voracious wanderlust has made him open-minded toward musical discovery no matter where he may find himself, from Atlanta to Zurich. Along the way, Chan has had the unique pleasure of catching some of his DJ idols play letting those memorable performances fuel his own dance music.

“The beach, specifically the beach in Ibiza, was very inspirational as it helped me relax and realize there was nothing to stress about. The competition was always a little bit tense, but at the end of the day a track will come out more organic and natural if there’s less stress. For me I had very little stress, and my final product was a very natural sound for me. Of course a little pressure is good, but I didn’t want the tense dynamic of a competition to come out through my music.” – DJ 747 (Ryan Chan)
This unprecedented worldwide competition seamlessly integrated thousands of fans, iconic beach locations and up-and-coming artists from around the globe, which was achieved in partnership with Beatport. Corona set out to co-create and shape a new music genre, one centred at the crossroads of Balearic beat and Deep House, and celebrates the spirit of the beach. The SunSets Sound of the Beach webisodes offer viewers a front row seat as these rising DJs shape and capture the new sound.
The SunSets vision represents the celebration of two passions deeply imbedded in the Corona brand, the beach and music. The series of beachfront music events kicked off in July, visiting some of the world’s most desirable beach destinations in the world, including Hanlan’s Point in Toronto and the beaches of Ibiza, Spain, Acapulco and Playa del Carmen in Mexico, and the UK.

A Dream Come True: Episode 1 – The Sound of the Beach DJ competition finals kick off with the six hand-picked contestants arriving in Ibiza to compete for the ultimate grand prize: the DJ career of their dreams. Beatport organizer Chris Galvin welcomes one and all, walking them through some of the criteria our panel of expert judges will be looking for. London finalist and UK House producer Riki Inocente is also featured in this premier episode.
Finding Inspiration: Episode 2 – DJ Dohko opens this episode by talking about the stress of the competition and the contestants take a tour of the island to find inspiration for helping their creativity flow.
Meeting Musicians: Episode 3 – At the beginning of episode three, DJ 747 talks about why he’s looking forward to being on the island of Ibiza and the contestants also get a chance to meet some of the islands local musicians.
