Dutch industry veteran Sander Van Doorn has teamed up with his fellow countryman rookie Oliver Heldens for a new track titled simply THIS. Released on DOORN and Spinnin’ Records.
It might soon be time to remove the rookie title from Heldens name but not until he stops recycling the melody from his hit single Gecko. It’s not the first time he’s taken the original chart-topping anthem and re-engineered it (see Robin Thicke – Feel Good (Oliver Heldens Remix) & Koala). To his credit Heldens is just engaging in a practice that is now on trend industry wide, as everyone tries to re-create the nostalgia and let’s be honest, the commercial success of their more popular records. It’s really commendable how he’s managed to accomplish this so many times inside of a year, with all the different renditions garnering some degree of notoriety. I just hope he stops before the sound becomes completely played out, now that he has fine-tuned every layer to the umpteenth degree.
This latest installment might just be the best version as Helden’s presents his familiar sound in a deeper and techier style then ever before. The track definitely falls on the harder end of the spectrum of what we’ve come to expect from both producers, which is precisely the way I like it. Sander Van Doorn’s influence can be felt rumbling throughout this banger in the form of bass. If your listening to this in your car, your windows will be rattling, iPod, better have a good pair of headphones, those ear buds aren’t going to cut it, and in the club, well lets just say you may not want to be standing in front of the speakers when this jam drops.
