Embrace brought us another amazing night with some of the biggest artists from Holy Ship! as it just finished the first phase of the boat cruise series this past month and kept the party afloat by coming to The Hoxton, right here in Toronto.
T Williams dropped his club edit of Disclosure’s track Latch and grabbed the crowd’s attention instantaneously. His entire set was swift and gradual, his tracks were selected tastefully, and he knew how to get everyone hyped for the headliners.
Motez came to the stage after, and played lots of tech and deep house. He dropped his remix of Don’t Call me Baby by Madison Avenue and people all over the venue found themselves instantly recognizing the track loving it! The beats were retro and kept everyone grooving as we eagerly waited for Destructo!
Destructo heightened the energy and played a really progressive set of all his best tracks. Everything was G-house, tech, and a touch of deep house. He played original tracks like Higher, Scuzzlebutt, Bust them Cheeks, and the Jauz remix of OT Genasis’s track Coco which had people going pineapples! No seriously, people were dancing and getting all sorts of inappropriate with pineapples. The Hoxton was transformed into its own ship for the evening, as most of the people from the GTA who attended Holy Ship! this year or previous years seemed to be in attendance for this event, so it made everyone else feel like we were actually there.
Anna Lunoe really stole the show after Destructo’s set, which was a bit unexpected. She opened with Shiba San’s track OK, which was well received and I saw many people looking at each other in that moment and agreeing without words that her set would exceed any and all expectations. She also dropped Rhymes by Hannah Wants & Chris Lorenzo, and her original tracks Heartbreak and Breathe.
After Anna Lunoe’s set, Destructo came back to the turntables one last time to play a more free-style and laid back set. I think Anna Lunoe stole the show, but Destructo returning to the stage a second time in one night was more than we bargained for!
The entire evening was superb. The crowd had great energy, the artists were still in party mode from the Holy Ship! shows, and even the merchandise crew was goofy and enthusiastic. I sincerely hope Destructo continues to return to Toronto every year because this show topped last year’s Hoxton show and introduced me to new artists all hand picked by Destructo himself.
