Embrace and Hunter Siegel have teamed up for a brand new series No Neon at The Hoxton right here in Toronto. The opening acts were hand picked by Hunter Siegel himself, NuAlias and City Kid Soul. The entire lineup was all local Toronto talent, and covered a wide range of house music all evening.
NuAlias started off the night with the deepest of house, and I was really impressed with their set. Their transitions were seamless, and the crowd continued to pour in while they played. This was their debut show, but it was hard to tell because they looked so comfortable up there and rocked it with confidence that only house music can put you in the zone for. NuAlias was recently featured on The NestHQ for the premiere of their new original track Flexin’, which they should be really proud of.
City Kid Soul has got an urban feel to them; their set was chill and the build-ups were progressive and subtle. They played a lot of tech and some deep house. They dropped a house remix of No Type by Rae Sremmurd which had those inner-city feels and had everyone swaggin’ out. City Kid Soul was recently featured on Thump’s Soundcloud for an hour mix, which is a really cool accomplishment. There are only good things to come in 2015 for this duo.
Hunter Siegel came to the stage closer to 1a.m. and dropped tracks like Coke Diet by Scotty Boy & Lorenzo, and original track Waiting Up which was probably the best track of the night. The community behind the dark techno scene is really something special that I think Hunter Siegel is doing a good job bringing to light. Whether people were on stage, in the booths, on the dance floor or behind the bar, everyone seemed to be grooving and heavily enjoying the artists’ sets.

No Neon was a great success for its first event and kicking off the first Spin Saturday at The Hoxton in 2015! With about 8 or so No Neon events planned for the year, you better make sure you hit it up before the year flies by. This is the underground scene making a splash in Toronto, and in my opinion, it’s where all the magic happens. Those dark, deep, house vibes won’t go unnoticed this year, so stay tuned for the next event announcement!
