HMV has a fairly new music venue that is located underneath the HMV Store on 333 Yonge Street in downtown Toronto called The HMV Underground. Just steps away from Yonge and Dundas Square, the stairs that lead toward these doors and open to an exclusive basement feel, allow for a very intimate show. You feel as though you’re VIP to witness the artist featured playing a live show just for you. The room fits just about 150 people, who lined up outside and were admitted on a first come, first to enter basis.
To get into the exclusive underground event, you would have needed to purchase the artist’s new album. This also allowed for an autograph and meet and greet. The featured artist this past Monday January 12th, was Robin Schulz.
The 27 year old Robin Schulz brings us some new tropical, melodic rhythm to the scene. His remixes of Waves by Mr.Probz and Prayer in a C by Lilly Wood & The Prick hit top charts from the United States, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, the United Kingdom and more.
He was born and raised in Osanbruck, Germany and has contributed gracefully to the new EDM music scene. Everyone who attended the event on Monday evening couldn’t help but sway along and dance to his beats. He played everything off of his new album “Prayer” and finished off the set with a remix of Baby Bash by Suga Suga.
It was a pleasure meeting him and asking him about his original parties he hosted called ‘Electroschnipsel’ – where he would host different parties around Germany with different styles of EDM music.
“I used to do those before I began DJing on my own.”
I then asked him, “Where were you most excited to play on this tour?”
“New York. It was a lot of fun playing there at Webster Hall”.
He also played his show at The Hoxton on January 10th which was sold out! I’m sure this is just the beginning of what he has to offer to the EDM culture of music.
