Nosaj Thing is a producer from Los Angeles who has been making music for the better part of the last decade producing tracks for various artists such as Kid Cudi’s Man on The Moon (formerly Aquarium) and Kendrick Lamar’s Cloud 10, but most recently Chance The Rapper’s track Paranoia. His style of music is almost like Flying Lotus with how it has evolved and can be described as the elevator music on the way to heaven. Nosaj Thing has been a big influence in his part of the scene since getting his start in 2006. He’s been ripping up the American scene playing festivals such as Sonar and Coachella and now he has his own North American tour as a result of all of that hard work. He’s released 2 full length albums, and has his 3rd one on the way christened by his new song Cold Stares, which draws a huge R&B influence with a sample reminding me of D’Angelo. This is one artist whose sound has and will mature as well as wine does. I’m happy to finally get the chance to see him live since I’ve been a fan since I heard the “Man on The Moon” album for the first time.

Also part of the tour is UK up-comer Clark with his unique take on techno. His attention to detail in his productions have amounted to minimalistic style involving carefully crafted synths that carry you into otherworldly basslines. Basslines that actually make you question what you’re listening to, until the percussion comes in and ties everything in and picks up pace. The final effect is a complete head-trip that you can’t help but groove to. Try checking out his songs To Live and Die in Grantham , Winter Finn and Superscope to get a better idea of what I mean. He’s just released a new EP entitled “Flame Rave” which is full of goodies like the ones I mentioned before. I think a full set by him would end up sounding something almost like Gesaffelstein from which I ended up with a bad case of FOMO because I couldn’t get tickets. If that sounds like you then you might want to check this show out, because this one of those nights.

Also along for the ride is Rival Consoles, a musician out of London who has also been making huge waves, some of them being his performances at and around SXSW a couple weeks ago, where he threw a free show for fans who didn’t have wristbands but still wanted to get to see him up close. This class-act style musician is hard to put under just any one genre but could be described as mysterious in a word. His synths do all the talking with beautiful melodies in transcendent songs like Odyssey and Voyager, and his percussion adds some extra rhythm into the mix. Beautiful samples are cut and manipulated perfectly to inspire a feeling of elegance and majesty, like in his remix of SpringerParker’s Libretto. His style of music goes so well the other acts on the tour that the idea of all of them together makes perfect sense in my opinion. We’ve got some world class talent up to bat in our city and for a reasonable cost to boot. The fact that this event is on a weekday shouldn’t discourage you don’t miss out on this show, especially if you want to add some new techno into your repertoire.
