EVENT PREVIEW: Alison Wonderland w/ Pusher @ The Hoxton 08-05-15

Embrace and Galapagos.fm present another Focus Fridays event at Toronto’s Hoxton Nightclub with Alison Wonderland and Pusher. This evening is going to offer Toronto something really different in the electronic scene, so brace yourselves.

Toronto local J-LAH will be one of the openers for the night. His sound is really chilled, and he’s got a lot of remixes under his belt. I’m hoping to hear his remix of You Know What’s Up originally by Donell Jones. That track is also free for download on his SoundCloud so go check it out! This artist has a fine taste for soul but gives it a fresh feel. I also really hope to hear his original track Baby, I’m for Real which sounds like it’s decades old and demands to be played off my record player. But I can assure you, this song is from 2014 and is really enlightening to hear in the electronic scene.

Pusher has really grown over the past couple years and I’m very eager to finally see him. His very bubbly kawaii-inspired trap beats are melodic and catchy. Pusher released a retro-feeling remix of the famous track Take U there by Jack U, also free for download. I know in my gut this track will be played at The Hoxton; it’s too good to omit from a set. Pusher is pushing boundaries and experimenting with his sounds too. He recently remixed Lean On by Major Lazer and DJ Snake featuring Mo. This track sounds very cultured like the original, but the drop is deeper and less cute. It’s a beautiful blend of trap and future. This track is also free for download. Support your local talent!

Alison Wonderland will be making her debut Toronto stop at The Hoxton and I cannot contain my excitement for this overdue show! Her recently released album “Run” is solid! Every single track some something different to offer in the future-trap subgenre. I honestly never knew I liked this type of music until her album captured me. With unbeatable tracks like Cold, Lies, and U Don’t Know, there’s no telling how crazy her set is going to be. I’m personally dying to hear my favourite tracks live, I Want U and possibly the Slumberjack remix of Cold.
