EVENT REVIEW: The Tuesday Night Social @ Bassline Music Bar 12-05-15

0

This past Tuesday, I made my way down to Bassline Music Bar at 865 Bloor Street West to catch up with Billey Barry, host of the soon-to-be Tuesday night favourite. Previously the project of Bassline owner, Craig Kovacs, the Tuesday Night Social began as an open decks opportunity and has transformed into a place to catch local talent sharing their sound in a casual atmosphere while enjoying cheap drinks and good company. The Tuesday Night Social has received continued support and sets by DJ Randomdoug, Edward Feyer, Ryan Wiley, Jenny Boo and Robbie Littles, to name a few.

Billey Barry is a Toronto-based DJ and training Producer who has played around the city at venues such as Li’ly Lounge, Comfort Zone and the legendary Guvernment Nightclub. He’s also one of the masterminds behind the afterhours sound at Comfort Zone where he works as a sound technician.

One of his favourite moments as a DJ is when he got the opportunity to play a set on Boxing Day after Manzone and Strong. He claims that he can “cross that one off of [his]bucket list,” and anyone familiar with that event knows that he did the Zone right that early morning in December.

If you haven’t had the chance to check out Bassline yet, it’s a cozy bar greeting you with Craig’s friendly smile when you come through the door. There is plenty of seating and places to enjoy the vibe while you sip on cheap drinks, and a fully locked and loaded DJ booth in the back. There’s also a dancefloor lit to look like the night sky has invaded the indoors with plenty of room to break out your moves while the Bassline entrances you with its bassline.

The organizers have set up a booth with Pioneer CDJ 900 Nexus decks for curious beginners and experienced experimenters to play with and paired them with a killer sound system to hear it through.

If you like techno, tech-house and house music, this is the spot to be on a Tuesday night. No cover, $5 drink specials, Nintendo 64 and a place to kick back and enjoy a low-key atmosphere dedicated solely to the sound. Billey has shared with me that there are big plans in motion for the summer, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled and your dancing shoes handy.
