EVENT REVIEW: N’to & Worakls w/ Amber Long & TWONO @ CODA Nightclub 29-05-15

Last Friday, courtesy of FLOH, Cult Status and CODA Nightclub, French favourites N’to and Worakls hit the decks with Amber Long and TWONO for an evening filled with melodic house and immaculate performance. The event was in full effect from kick-off to sun-up and is certainly not one that will be surpassed in the progressive scene anytime soon.

The night began with TWONO taking us deeply into the music. The room was just beginning to see people as we showed up – a buzz of excitement as fans eagerly approached the stage in anticipation. TWONO was nonchalantly deepening the vibe in the dark room with tracks like Oasis by Sebastien LegerMarc Marzenit‘s remix of Jeremy Olander‘s Goliath and Atlantis, one of his own originals.

He also shared with me that he mixed in some unreleased music – a taste of what is yet to come from TWONO. His set was flawlessly mixed and he easily spun the growing crowd into the realm of melodic music as we prepared ourselves for the night ahead.

“It is great to see some electronic artists playing a live set inside of a club like CODA, which generally sees techno DJs grace the decks. Their sound was quite melodic and refreshing. It was a pleasure to set the night up for Amber Long, who beautifully set it up for N’to and Worakls.”

Amber Long made her way to the back of the stage. Smiling and energetic, she hit the decks and the crowd fed off of the amazing stage presence this woman offered us. Her set was cleverly designed and she was the perfect person to build us up to the climax. Her promo mix for this event had set her bar pretty high, but Amber delivered ten-fold. It was like she wasn’t willing to see a single face in the room without a smile, so she was at the front singing and dancing to show us how it’s done.

Amber shared with me that the music she played was all music made by her and her friends. She says that she has been fortunate to work with people all over the world, which has really expanded her listening. She went for the really deep, ‘instrumental’ stuff with an edge to get the crowd excited for the melodic live sets to follow from N’to and Worakls. Her excitement was enlightening and I loved to see this Toronto favourite having just as much fun as I was.

“The highlight of my night was mid-set when I played a new track [that]I recorded vocals for a couple weeks ago called My Soul by Argentinian producers, Kasall & Cristian R. Only a handful of people had heard it before that moment and the reception was off the hook. I got lost in my own bubble for a minute as I sang along and it reminded me why I love the work I do. We still don’t know what label My Soul is going to yet but we know it works on the dancefloor.”- Amber Long

Next up, French Producer N’to made his way to the stage as Toronto greeted him warmly. TWONO and Amber had done an exceptional job at setting the mood, and now it was time for the night to take its plunge into the deep end. N’to played his originals The Sand Dealer, Time and Every Wall is a Door. He also spun in his remixes of Wankelmut‘s Wasted So Much Time and Oliver Schories and Joris Delacroix‘s Palm Tree Memories.

His set can be described as being beautifully melodic and progressive, the perfect set to kick-off a summer filled with warm evenings and good company. N’to did nothing short of deliver, and it was a treat to feel his vibe within the walls of CODA.

“We met nice people during our stay and at CODA Nightclub as well. I love the atmosphere of city and I really hope to come back very soon! Thank you!” – N’To

It was rumoured that Worakls was going to grace us with a full live piano set, so when he stepped behind the decks I was eager to see him break into some live performance. The addition of live elements to electronic performances is something that I anticipate fully, and Worakls was sure to entice us with brilliant accompaniment and a softer touch as the night neared its completion. He spun in his originals Good Night My Love, Porto and Salzburg while hitting our emotions and breathing a little of his international style into the Toronto dance scene. Admittedly, I was hoping he would mix in some of his older creations, but once he was in the height of his set I was glad he’d chosen a more relaxed feel to his time at CODA.

“I really liked Toronto, a lot of friends told me very good things about this city. It was my first party in here and I wasn’t disappointed!” – Worakls

Unfortunately, I had to leave near the end of Worakls set, so I missed the finale to this amazing experience. As I begrudgingly made my way to the exit, the room was in full effect and showed little sign of slowing down so I have no doubts that the wrap-up was as exciting as the build-up had been. This was N’to and Worakls Canadian debut and I am excited that we got to share it with them at CODA Nightclub here in Toronto!
