Following Will Brennan‘s 2013 Dim Mak release of RNR and its subsequent remix by Madeaux, the Southern MC has again joined forces with Madeaux to deliver a slow burning groove on his newest single Smoke & Mirrors.
Against the track’s haunting synths, sultry percussion and hypnotic instrument samples, Brennan’s melodic vocals and smooth flow make up the incendiary focal point on this moody future R&B hit.
As one of Dim Mak’s first signed rhymesayers, Will Brennan flouts the boundaries between hip-hop, soul/R&B and electronic music. After being spotlighted in XXL’s ‘The Break’ series The Source’s ‘Unsigned Hype‘ column for his unabashed lyricism and shape-shifting sound, Brennan inked his label deal in 2013 and soon after revamped and remastered his 2012 album Prodigal Son for Dim Mak release. The rapper has also supported hip-hop heavyweights such as Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, B.O.B, Yelawolf and Wale on stage.
Madeaux is an up-and-coming producer who is equally comfortable in the realms of hip-hop and dance. Having recently signed with rap/dance imprint Fool’s Gold, Madeaux’s interest in crossovers is ever present; especially so in his numerous bootleg remixes of hip-hop greats like Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Last year, he released his debut album “Love with Machine” as a free download which won praise from industry heavyweights like Diplo and A-Trak for its ability to amalgamate drum-fueled rhythms, jazzy funk flavors, downtempo trap beats and cinematic soundscapes.
