ALBUM REVIEW: Ronski Speed – New Breed

0

Last year, we saw the start of Ronski Speed’s collaboration label launch known to be MARACAIDO. With MARACAIDO, Ronski has complete artistic freedom to produce fresh new trance. The label will incorporate Ronski’s new releases, as well as releases from young talent and well-known artists.

Ronski Speed is a name that is well known in the trance realm. He has been producing hit singles, collaborations, and remixes like The Space We Are, Can’t Stop with JES, and recently his monster remix of Another You by Armin Van Buuren featuring Mr. Probz.

Here, in front of me, is his latest mixed compilation album dubbed as “New Breed.” Having taken the time to fully listen to the compilation I have to say it sure is that interesting, fresh sound that MARACAIDO is described to be. The compilation has a nice flow to it, an element that is expected from the trance veteran.

The mix starts with its own intro, flowing into some bright synth driven trance. A couple tracks really stuck out to me in the compilation. I really enjoyed track number 4, Lint by LTN & Ronski himself. It reminds me of Ronski’s older pieces like Out of Control from 2011.

Track 7, Ushuaia by Sylvermay is another one worth listening to. I really enjoy it because for me it almost sounds like a trance rework of Eric Prydz’s track, Pjanoo! The build is more than satisfactory in Ushuaia, I would love to hear this live on a full club system. The energy level in the mix changes using the track Ushuaia to transition into some more epic anthem trance.

After track 11, Scrum, the mix transitions into vocal trance offerings. The epic energy from before ever still so present flows into track 12, Teardrops by Juxie and featuring Emma Pittulainen in the Ronski Speed Scrum Mix. The vocals are incredible in this track, it is matched with a high energy backdrop.

Track 13 immediately after is equally powerful if not more. Airmoon’s Punch It (Ronski Speed Scrum Mix) has a high energy entrance that is unforgiving and would have anyone bobbing their heads along. The track leads into a big open breakdown for an effective break and locks back into the energy at the release.

Simply put it this way – I really liked the album. It encompasses an array of styles across the trance labels that Ronski Speed has released under like Armada, Blackhole, Anjuna, and Euphonic. The thought put into the mix is evident, tracks flow seamlessly which is how a good mix compilation should be. I have listened to the album on many occasions in my day to day life, I particularly liked driving while listening to this album. It’s a perfect fit for a night time highway drive in an urban center like Toronto!
