TRACK REVIEW: Gallant – Weight In Gold (Electric Mantis Remix)

0

Just about a week ago, Soundcloud got a fresh delivery of awesomeness when Electric Mantis dropped a sensual remix of Gallant‘s already inspiring and super soulful single Weight In Gold. The original version of this song was debuted on Zane Lowe‘s Beats Radio/Apple music show as the first ever “Future Exclusive” and since then has spread like wildfire with 1.3 million views on the version on his page in just over a month.

This remix from the Oregon-based producer has an instant hold on the listener from the intro with its strong mix of seductive drums, pitched up vocal sample and piano working in unison to relax your mind. As the vocals from the verse drift in you start to become lulled into calmness by Gallant’s voice. At the climax you float down to earth from this incredible high guided by the vulnerable and self-aware lyrics of the chorus.

All the key elements in this track are polished to a shine, every piece coming together for an elegant and relaxing edit that has you wanting to hold someone close as quickly as possible. There’s so much emotion and longing added to such an already meaningful song creating this addictive beat that has corralled over 37k Soundcloud views in less than a week, and catapulted its way into my list of favourite tunes of 2015.

What I like most about this remix is that is doesn’t really fit into just one specific genre, there are so many influences blended into one cohesive and well crafted product. Its also gotten remixes from Ta-ku, Myles Travitz, MVJESTY as well as Diamond Saints. If you want to hear more from Electric Mantis check out his “Braincase EP” available for streaming on Soundcloud or for purchase on Bandcamp. Its a real cool representation of different mental states like sleepy, erratic and the feeling of sleep paraylsis.
