refused. is excited to welcome fresh Canadian talent to the roster with an upcoming release from Vancouver based producer, OHNIN. Alias to his original artist profile James Hopkins, OHNIN is a new musical project set to explore the darker, deeper side of the techno hemisphere. “Area Code” is a 3-track EP, which dives deep into rolling basslines and grooving beats. Each track explores different dynamics from a deeper, more droning sound.
The EP starts out with
Area Code, which is accompanied by a growling sub-bass and dark, ominous groove. The reverberated drum rolls give some nice variation which is refreshing to the overall groove of this song.
Tripped In plays between the hi-hats and snare, which gives this track a nice shuffled feel and energy. The droned out vocals and synth sequence in the background, give
Tripped Out a lot of atmosphere. Lastly,
Make Me Feel has a dark, low cut bassline which plays nicely with the kick. The overall track has a nice use of vocals with a pronounced cyclical synth line.
