Progressive Monkey has surprised us this year with numerous amazing psy-trance artist bookings. On the 24th of October 2015 they will grace us yet again with the next installment of this series, featuring the return of another legend and Toronto favourite, Perfect Stranger. This highly anticipated event is to be hosted at Progressive Monkey’s new home base, Club 120.
Perfect Stranger is a stage name for Israeli based electronic musician Yuli Fershtat. This identity was created sometime around February 2005, and within 2 calendar years, he became critically acclaimed all over the globe. He is always showcasing the next step with his multi-genre psychedelic dance music, which ultimately culminated into being classified as a genre of it’s own presenting a totally distinctive sound characterized by groovy playful beats and patiently built compositions.
His music often defies genres, bridging between progressive trance and techno with a presence of tribal and psychedelic elements. He has released 3 full artist albums, 2 remix albums, compiled 2 compilations and appears on well over a hundred other releases (compilations, EP’s, albums, etc.). He also owns the Digital Structures label, where he publishes more tech orientated sounds.
To ensure the vibes stay strong throughout the night, Prog. Monkey will also host some amazing local DJs, including the long-awaited return of their superstar Sara Dopstar. Also in store for us is the debut of a new collaborative project by Animalium and Ina Matrex, named Animatrex, as well as a new live duo named Mydä (DJ Mythrophan and Daäna). DJ Mythrophan will also be performing his solo project for us that night.
Sara has been destroying dance floors at Prog. Monkey shows since the beginning, and she hasn’t disappointed once. With hard groovy basslines and spacious psychedelic sounds, Sara promises to deliver a heart pounding vibe every time she performs.
Animatrex is the new duo of Animalium and Ina Matrex: two outstanding DJs who decided to join forces after they noticed how well their styles blended together. Animalium is a new upcoming DJ (and is writing this article for you) who has been surprising crowds all over Toronto’s clubs with old and new school psychedelic tracks consisting of hardcore basslines and energetic full-on melodies. Ina Matrex is veteran DJ with over 10 years of mixing experience. His styles range from dirty techno and dubstep beats, to terrific psychedelic explosions, to go-all-out drum n’ bass and happy hardcore. By combining these styles together, the duo has come up with an entirely new style coined “Future Fusion”. You can definitely expect the unexpected from these guys.
Mydä is the collaboration between DJ Mythrophan and Daäna, two artists with deeply rooted backgrounds in electronic music. Daäna has been shaping frequencies as an accomplished producer for over 10 years. Mythrophan is an experienced DJ with a deep understanding of sound and progression, who has been rocking dance floors for many years. The two combine their diverse skills and shared passion for music, and the result is a mature and tasteful blend of glitchy progressive techno. The minimal, melodic and psychedelic elements in their music stem from Mythrophan and Daäna’s distinct musical roots.
