Anjunabeats announced the first wave of dates for their 2016 North American tour and Toronto is lucky stop number one!
The tour kicks off at Maison Mercer on Friday, January 22nd, 2016 and continues to Montreal before making a counterclockwise circle around the United States and western Canada, wrapping up in Calgary in the early spring. Bayer, Bluestone, Grum, and Ross are the main headliners for the majority of the tour, with some stops featuring additional guests, including Myon & Shane 54, Seven Lions, and Arty.
January will mark the third time Andrew Bayer has been booked here in the previous calendar year. He made his Toronto debut this past spring at Maison Mercer as part of his Do Androids Dream tour, and recently returned for Liberty Grand‘s annual Monster Mash event in support of his artistic concept project “Anamnesis Trilogy”. Parts one and two of the trilogy (Nobody Told Me and Celestial) have already been released and the final part (Memories) is scheduled to be out on December 4th, along with a 30-minute long mix combining the three tracks together seamlessly. Bayer was initially signed to the Anjunabeats label back in 2003 when he was apart of the electronic music duo Signalrunners with Alan Nimmo; it wasn’t until 2011 when Bayer debut his first solo artist album, “It’s Artificial”, on the Anjunabeats label.
In collaboration with Maor Levi, On Our Own was Ilan Bluestone‘s first release on the Anjunabeats label. His first solo track, Namaste, was released in the spring of 2012. He’s gained worldwide success ever since and was one of the supporting acts in Above & Beyond‘s internationally celebrated shows, Group Therapy 100 and Group Therapy 150. Like Bayer, Bluestone has made a recent appearance in Toronto; he was the headliner at Muzik for a special summer Anjuna Pool Party.
Grum is a new member to the Anjuna family. Grum released his hit single Heartbeats in 2008 and had been label-hopping with a string of successful singles and remixes before signing to the label in May. He is no stranger to our city; he’s played several shows here throughout the years, the latest being July of 2014 at Uniun Nightclub.
Unlike the other Anjuna artists, this show marks Jason Ross‘ Toronto debut! Ross was named the “Breakthrough Artist of 2014” by Above & Beyond. When Burma was released early last year, A&B played the track in their weekly Group Therapy Radio show (ABGT). Listeners voted the track to be played again in the next broadcast as “Record of the Week”, and then again for the following week. In the last 600+ radio episodes dating back to 2004 (Group Therapy and Trance Around The World combined), a non-Anjunabeats track to be played three consecutive weeks has only happened five times. Ross was signed to the label shortly after.
