Progressive Monkey is starting off 2016 with a bang as they bring back the French wizard, Talamasca. It will be an amazing night indeed, and with the addition of a live set by Ben Rama, it will definitely be a great start of a new year. Alongside the two will be our local heroes Audi Étoffe and Magic Mushroom.
Known as one of the most talented musicians of the electronic music scene, and specialist in psytrance, Talamasca is the solo project of Cedric Dassulle, based in Paris. He began DJing when in 1992 under the name of DJ Lestat and in 1996, he decided to make his own project and after his first releases on the Israeli label Krembo Records, Talamasca was born. With the big success of his music, he began playing more live acts and was becoming known as one of the leaders of the international psytrance scene. In 1998 he had a hand in the creation of 3D Vision, which quickly became one of the leading psytrance labels. Later on he started his own label Mind Control Records, but after a few years he finally found his home at Belgian label Dacru records.With over 15 successful years playing all over the planet, he knows what people want to dance to, and his skills of translating feelings into music are beyond this world. It’s no wonder people all over the world call him the ‘maestro’ of psytrance.
Ben Rama is a progressive techno producer from eastern Canada. His unique blend of deep driving tech grooves and subtle, haunting melodies has captivated dance floors ever since the unveiling of his live set in 2010. Heavily rooted in the progressive psytrance of the early-to-mid 2000s, and drawing upon influences of more modern techno movements, Ben’s sound is able to encompass both aspects of light and dark, often within the same track.
Magic Mushroom is the DJ project of Hugo Brito from Ponta Delgada, Azores. Magic Mushroom began learning to DJ at the age of 16 and in 2006 he had been invited to play his first party where he officially became a psytrance DJ. After making a name for himself in his home land, he moved to Toronto and began to spread his musical energy with the city. With his intense psychedelic Fullon night, Magic Mushroom crushes the dance floors of the most infamous clubs of Toronto, leaving everyone wanting more.
Audi has definitely become a burning sensation throughout the psychedelic and rave scenes in Toronto over the past few years, and there’s no question about it with his intense blend of Rave, Acid and Progressive mixes. His high energy is terrifically unique and his ability to read the dance floor and change the vibe quickly to accommodate are only small examples of the veteran DJs skills. With over ten years as a DJ under his belt, Audi definitely does not disappoint and he will be damned if he ever does.
After performing twice at Prog Monkeys old venue the Lily Lounge, Talamasca will have the opportunity to play the new, bigger and better venue Club 120, which means there will be a lot of room for a lot of people. With that in mind, grab your tickets here while they’re cheap because this event is going to sell out fast.
