Just one day before the official kick off to the 2015 Game Awards, Hardwell unveils his stunning, official remix of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Gerudo Valley. Joining the likes of Afrojack, Steve Aoki, and Dash Berlin, the Dutch dance luminary has joined forces with Nintendo and The Game Awards for a specially commissioned remix of Gerudo Valley from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to showcase the cultural significance and relationship between dance music and video games.
Hardwell opens the remix with a rolling percussion sequence layered over thumping kicks, which pave the way for glimmering, electro-infused synth melodies expertly interwoven with blaring horn samples and booming kick drums. The iconic melody of the original song remains the backbone of the remix, as Hardwell turns “Gerudo Valley” into a stand-out remix ready to wreak havoc on the main stage.
In celebration of the remix, Hardwell explained, “When Nintendo asked me to remix one of the songs, I could virtually pick anything from every Nintendo game. I’m a huge Zelda fan, so I decided to pick my favorite Zelda, which was Ocarina of Time. At that point, I just looked at all the different songs they had in the game, so I decided to pick Gerudo’s Valley, which was almost the hardest part of the game, and that’s the track that I decided to remix. I have a lot of favorite games, I have to say, definitely my #1 game I ever played was Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo-64.”
Hardwell is wrapping a monumental year that saw the release of his magnus opus, United We Are, in addition to countless appearances at iconic festivals like Ultra Music Festival, TomorrowWorld, and Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. On December 13th, The Revealed Recordings founder is celebrating the launch of his United We Are charity foundation, which strives to educate the impoverished youth around the world, with a record-setting charity show in Mumbai, where 100,000 fans will be granted free entry via Hardwell’s personal guest list. The show will be live-streamed worldwide starting at 9 AM EST.
