EVENT REVIEW: Trance Sessions presents Trancemergency: A Night of 138+ @ Populus (formerly Toika) – 21-10-2016

We arrived at Populus (formerly Toika) at 10:30PM and the club had the usual sparse number of people in attendance for that time of the night. The venue was brighter that the last time I had been to Populus. As I walked up to the stage, there were skulls with lights in them that were the source of the extra illumination.

Opening the night was Marshall who was warming up the crowd with some full-force trance beats that had some psychedelic characteristics to it. He had opened with the track Flying To Colors (Genix Remix) by Markus Schulz and continued to pick up the pace until about 20 minutes before the end of his set, where he decided to drop some dirty Psytrance beats with tracks such as Anti Social Media – Bryan Kearney & Coming Soon remixed by Sean Tyas, and Revolved by Indianix, all while maintaining a BPM of at least 138.

Marshall wanted to end his set on a high note and he did just that by playing Sapana by Astrix. He set the mood perfectly for the next DJ to hit the decks, Patrick Win.

Patrick performed a set for the people, opening with Vini Vici’s remix of Hilight Tribe’s Free Tibet which got everyone ecstatic. While he progressed through his set with mashups of classics with old songs like Beat It by Michael Jackson. He also dropped other tracks by Vini Vici and Ace Ventura, one of them being the the aforementioned’s latest collaboration The Calling, raising the tempo from 138 to 140BPM.

Patrick managed to keep the crowd alive and jumping throughout his entire set. Once he stepped off stage, Audi Étoffe was geared up and ready to kick it.

Audi was the DJ I was looking forward to seeing all night, not only because he’s a friend of mine but mainly due to the fact that he is one kickass Psytrance DJ. He’s known for messing with people’s minds on the dance floor which leaves them crying for more, and he did just that for the remaining soldiers that were still stomping after Patrick’s set.

Audi opened with Signs of Revolution by Symbolic and raised the tempo from Patrick’s previous 140BPM to a whopping 145BPM with tracks such as Nebula by Electric Universe and Avalon’s remix of Tweaky by Astrix.

The crowd was so intense that halfway through Audi’s set I got accidentally headbutted in the nose and began to bleed, but I cleaned up, powered through, and continued to dance. After 2 hours of mind bending progressive and Full-on Psytrance, Audi’s time with us was up, and the last DJ to hit the stage was Aahan.

Aahan started off transitioning from Audi’s set with the track Ederlepsy by Stryker and Javier Bussola which ended up fitting in perfectly. Unfortunately, only a few minutes into Aahan’s set, I started to get a massive headache from my nose injury and had to leave the venue early. I wanted to stay to hear the rest of Aahan’s set, which was sounding very promising, but unfortunately could not manage any longer and regretfully took my leave.

The vibes all throughout the night were outstanding, the people were friendly and the music was great! You can head to our Facebook page to see our Manager Adele’s photos of this party. Tag your friends!

MARSHALL has posted his set from Trancemergency, which you can hear through this link.

Trance Sessions Toronto did a stellar job of putting together such a fantastic party, and I think they’re going to grow to be a strong force in the Toronto Trance scene. The next event up for Trance Sessions is Neptune Project at Populus for an Open-to-Close set! This show is not be missed by any Trance aficionado, so head to the event page here for tickets and details.

Until next time, Peace!
