EVENT PREVIEW: Carl Cox @ REBEL 16-06-17

I am excited to be covering the Champion of Techno – Carl Cox with Carlo Lio – at Toronto’s distinctive and transformative event complex REBEL on Friday, June 16th, 2017. REBEL boasts a built-in, state of the art sound system with concert acoustics, four fully serviced bars, a 65ft wide stage, and an elevated 135ft long private deck overlooking lake Ontario and the Toronto city skyline.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Carl Cox twice and both times were amazing! Both shows were held inside legendary (and now closed) Toronto venues: CiRCA and The Guvernment. My favourite track by Cox is Give Me Your Love featuring Hannah Robinson released via 23rd Century / PIAS in 2004. This track pushes me on my jogs as I take in my surroundings; lush green trees, rushing Humber River, geese flying above, ducks wading in the river… all while the rushing vocals “give me your love, give me your love..” tickle my ears.

In 1999, Carl formed the label Intec Records. Sadly the label ended in 2006, but Cox decided to re-launch the label as Intec Digital early in 2010. “The label couldn’t be going better,” says Carl, “It’s great to be back at the helm discovering underground DJs”.

Cox’s Pure Intec series was relaunched in 2013, nine years after the hugely successful original run. Inspired, Cox teamed up with the label head Jon Rundell to create a series of Intec Club Nights, playing sold out shows in London, Ibiza, Madrid, Switzerland, and Amsterdam for ADE.

When he isn’t hosting epic techno shows, Cox embraces his other passion – motor racing! In 2013, he formed the international brand Carl Cox Motorsport which covers many different styles of motor racing and provides an opportunity for talented and upcoming racers to make their mark.

I am looking forward to my third Carl Cox experience as he bounces, waves his arms in the air, and invites the audience into his techno sphere with his famous “Oh, yes! Oh, Yes! OH, YES!” chant, and above all, offering up the best in techno hospitality only he can serve. Tickets are available here.

Ink Entertainment always satisfies its electronic music clientele and understands how to deliver the best shows possible. Keep watching EDM TOR for my review of the night after I recover from being pummelled into the dancefloor.
