EVENT REVIEW: Electric Escape U4RIA Degenerate Night with Sean Tyas 09-03-18

Friday, March 9th, 2018 brought the latest installment of Electric Escape‘s U4RIA series. This time it was Sean Tyas headlining Nest, so it was sure to bring the 140 bpm lovers out. Mr. Tyas was supported by Rayz, Deecee and A.D. the Kid so the night was set up to be quite a fun one from the start. Also, having a 4AM last call did not hurt!

I was pretty late getting to the club so sadly, I missed Rayz’s opening set. I hear he played a really smooth progressive mix. He played tracks like Tears (Wally Lopez Remix) by Luca Guerri, Mr. Bizz’ Perfectly and Sweet Perfection by OC & Verde and Eli & Fur.

Deecee took over the decks after RAYZ, and by the time I walked in the club, Endorphin by Oliver Smith was playing. I noticed that the room was about half full. My wife had brought her fiber whip along, so we decided to hang out in the back where there was ample space to dance with it. He continued to play a very Anjuna-heavy set with tracks like Dash BerlinGo it Alone (Andrew Rayel remix). The club began to fill up as the night progressed. Deecee also played a favourite of mine, Love Hold On by Sheridan Grout and Somna (which made me glad I arrived when I did). Originally, my wife and I were not planning on coming to this show, since both of us prefer our trance to be more on the melodic and euphoric side. However, after hearing how many of our friends were going, we decided we wanted to surprise them (that also being the reason we arrived so late). Boy, were they surprised to see us!  We continued to dance in the back by the speaker stacks as Deecee finished his set with Andy Moor and Betsie Larkin – Love Again (Andrew Rayel Remix).

We were all ready to get down when 1AM hit and Sean Tyas came on. Tyas opened with Satellite by Oceanlab (the James Dymond Simple Update Bootleg) and that really set the pace for the rest of his set. The sound was perfect at the back of the club. We had plenty of room to dance, so we danced, and danced, and danced with help from tracks like Generate by Activa and People by Tyas himself. It was about 3:45AM by the time I had reached my limit. Like I said before, I don’t hate driving 140 bpm trance but I can only handle so much. By the time my wife and I had finished saying our goodbyes, Tyas was ending his set with his classic track Lift.

Lucky for all you 140 fans who missed out, Tyas posted the entire 3 hour set from Nest up on his Soundcloud! Click play:

A.D. The Kid went on to close out the night after we had left. After hearing feedback from friends that he had played tracks like Andy Moor and Ashley Wallbridge‘s Faces (Indecent Noise Remix), James Dymond’s Push and Gareth Emery‘s Into The Light (Alex M.O.R.P.H. Remix), it makes me wish that I had stayed until the end.

My wife and I had a lot of fun! It was great to see so many of the people I know all at the same show. If you missed the show don’t fret, Sean Tyas will be playing again in Montreal in the beginning of May. He will be playing alongside my favourite Montreal DJ, kärl k-otik. So if you missed this show, don’t miss that one! The next U4RIA event will be with James Dymond in May, then Electric Escape is continuing the U4RIA series with Canada’s first all Trance Music Festival which will be happening in June. Hope to see you guys out there dancing!

Ryan was a writer for EDM TOR. His love affair with EDM blossomed during many trips to the local record shop growing up. He had to order releases from their catalogue since they wouldn't stock what they called "shitty computer music". Trance is his favourite electronic genre, but he loves all EDM from dark Techno to liquid Drum 'n Bass. Ryan is also a DJ and he moved to Toronto to be with his wife Jenn.
