In the past several months we have had numerous trance parties from different promotional teams, all bringing their preferred sub-genres of trance to Toronto. We’ve been served up plenty of bangers, uplifting trance, vocal trance, tech-trance stompers, psychedelic trance slammers and everything in between. On Saturday, May 19, 2018 we will be graced again with a psytrance party from Psychedelic Babylon hosting at Sound Xchange. Upgrade is coming to Toronto for their debut and is not a spectacle you want to miss if psy is your preferred trance sub-genre.
Since their debut in 2011, Raz Kfir and Udi Pilo from Israel have been producing some of the most original psychedelic trance sounds and become some of the busiest artists in the psy scene. They’ve had performances on some of the biggest stages around the globe, acquired tens of millions of hits on social media and released numerous hits over the years. We’ve seen this duo release tracks and remixes on several different labels, including Spintwist Records, Nutek Records, Mainstage Records, Alien Records and more. Raz and Udi have collaborated with some of the biggest names in the scene including Bizzare Contact, Blastoyz, WHITENO1SE, Bubble and G.M.S. to name just a few. One of their biggest remixes to date was of Waves of Sound, a track by legendary Israeli DJ Yahel that was released in 2015. We can be sure if this one drops the place will go insane.
With three albums, several EPs and a pile of remixes under their belt, Upgrade doesn’t seem to be slowing down. The pair continues to grow bigger with every release. The melodic full-power psytrance sound they bring has proved to be very popular amongst their fans, myself included. Israeli psytrance artists, including Upgrade, continue to be a favourite of mine. Having experienced an Upgrade set on the beaches of Israel many years ago, I can guarantee that their unique psy sounds and melodies can always get the dancefloor moving. For supporting acts at this event, we have three local artists known well to the psy community. First is Jkovsky (Oleg Kazovsky). He brings his own style of progressive and techno to the table. He has been the opener for numerous Psychedelic Babylon parties including the most recent Phaxe party. He will surprise you all with an incredibly groovy set. The next supporter on this lineup is Psyslim. Salim hails from the United States, and we are lucky enough to have him spin for us so regularly around Toronto. We last saw him play at Goantao‘s debut party held on April 20th, 2018. He will bring his style of full-on and progressive psy with him, making us move with high bpm tracks. Expect some serious damage to be done on the dance floor during his set.
