EVENT PREVIEW: Resonance presents their debut event with Symbolic at Sound Xchange 05-05-18

This Saturday, May 5th, 2018, Resonance boasts its first party at Sound Xchange with an international headliner who has yet to play in the GTA, and a massive supporting lineup to boot. Resonance is a series of events in Toronto curated by two up-and-coming event planners who have a serious passion for trance music.

  1. the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating.
    “the resonance of his voice”
  2.
    Physics
the reinforcement or prolongation of sound by reflection from a surface or by the synchronous vibration of a neighboring object.

As the name suggests, the premier event for the Resonance series is poised to resonate throughout the Toronto trance community, by bringing progressive psytrance powerhouse Symbolic in to headline. The sounds of the underground promise to reverberate throughout the venue on Saturday night, so get your dancing shoes on!

Since his debut in 2011, Symbolic aka Ilan Shemi has built up a reputation as a producer and is in high demand. He is charismatic in his DJ style and is recognized as one of the principal profiles in the global progressive and psytrance scenes, putting hit after hit into the charts. Symbolic has been busy on the festival circuit worldwide and has played Boom, Ozora, Earthcore and more. One of our writers experienced his set at last year’s Eclipse Festival, (coincidentally also titled Resonance), and described his set as a breath of fresh air among the darker, more monotonous techno sounds of the day.

“Everyone just got up from where they were sitting and started dancing. Looking back towards the camping area, you could see droves of people streaming down towards the stage area as Symbolic set the tone for the evening of driving psychedelic beats to follow. It was an unforgettable experience and hopefully Ilan will deliver a similarly uplifting set this Saturday!” – Shannon Cowie, #TeamEDMTOR

Ilan is also involved in another successful project; Artificials (with Audiotec). Artificials is also becoming quite well-recognized in the global progressive and psytrance scene, so if you enjoy the Symbolic show, be sure to check out this fiery collab!

Attending a party hosted by the Resonance team means expecting a careful selection of local artists, extended headliner sets and fully-amped productions. Along with their announcement of Symbolic as the headliner, this show features a robust local DJ supporting line up. Each DJ brings a particular style and vibe to the table (or dancefloor!) so read on to familiarize yourself with this stellar lineup.

Ian McKee is an up-and-coming DJ/Producer from Windsor going by the name Alien Pilot. He started gaining momentum in recent years, while opening and closing for big name artists such as Bizzare Contact, 1200 Micrograms & Liquid Soul. Alien Pilot is known to deliver an outstanding set filled with energy that falls musically somewhere between the progressive and full-on styles of psychedelic trance. Listen to this recent mix to warm yourself up for the weekend.

Bits & Bytes
is all about minimal techno. Ian Davis, aka Ian D or D Brain and Napoleon Menezes aka N_Pulse make up this duo. Ian is a Canadian-born vinyl DJ who was mixing on decks back in the 90s, and Napoleon was born in Brazil where he discovered the world of trance. It was after he moved to Canada in 2006 that he was introduced to even more underground music, and met Ian who became his friend and mentor. Their first gig together was in 2012 at Li’ly Lounge. Their sets are known to be hypnotic minimal techno and hard tech with a lot of energy and build-ups. They will bring their own unique spirit and sound to this party, be sure you’re there to witness it.

One of Toronto’s most popular DJs, Derek Chen aka Deecee, will be joining the support for this event. We see a lot of Deecee at Electric Escape‘s events, since he is not only one of the founding partners of the company, but also the resident DJ for it. His versatile mixing style can fit into almost any genre of event in the GTA, and that is why he is booked so often. He also has a very large and supportive fan base that you will see there to support him, without a doubt.

For the trancers that regularly hit up Trance Sessions’ events, Brian Longmire and M45 are two familiar faces. These guys will be throwing down one of their bad-ass B2B sets that always hit the spot with me. Brian started DJing in 2016, and he already has shared the stage with some of the best DJs around including Airwave, Ace Ventura, Jordan Suckley, The Noble Six, and many more. He co-hosts Trance Sessions Radio with M45, his dear friend and fellow resident DJ at Trance Sessions. Nick Brzezinski, aka M45, comes over to play for us from Buffalo, NY. He has become one of the most sought-after supporting DJs in the area having played on decks alongside Kyau & Albert, Gareth Emery, and even heavyweights Aly & Fila. Here is a recent B2B set of theirs recorded at Trance Sessions’ #inthedark Pharmacy Music label night with Christopher Lawrence for you to listen to at your leisure.

Nocturne will be joining the support line up for this event and he will come at us with a live set that nobody should miss. Danilo hails originally from Brazil, so trust me when I tell you he can really get you to move your feet! Maybe the groove was infused in his blood from birth, or perhaps he’s just insanely talented. With wild synth sounds and superbly selected music, you can expect the unexpected in a set from Nocturne.

Toronto psyfam, get excited because our beloved Sara Dopstar is back again! This Columbian beauty is known for her tasty track selection, use 0f rolling bass lines and harmonic melodies, with a hint of the dark side. She often likes to start her sets out smooth, but end in a fit of fury, letting the music tell a story. Sara recently moved to Montreal (much to the chagrin of Toronto’s psy community) and is actively involved in the festival circuit. Sara is regularly booked with international heavyweight artists like Brainiac, Juno Reactor, Egorythmia, Vini Vici, and more, and has played at major festivals and nightclubs across Ontario and Quebec, including Canada’s renowned Eclipse Festival, The Guvernment, and Circus. This gem of a woman is always inspired to keep contributing to the electronic music scene and making people dance anywhere she goes, so hit play on her mix below and dance. It’s the best way to thank her.

Good news! Word has it that Sound Xchange has recently updated the sound in their venue. The sound has been balanced, another 10,000 watt amp has been added, and a couple extra subs now grace the edges of the dancefloor. We are all truly excited to check out the improvements they’ve made.

This event not only boasts the debut of Symbolic to Toronto but it is also the debut event for Resonance. Grab your tickets right here and #TeamEDMTOR will see you on the psytrance floor. I personally can’t wait to get out there and dance! Oh, yeah! I am going to be at the event shooting photos, so come say “Hi!” and make sure to get a picture taken for our photo album.
