EVENT PREVIEW: Embrace presents Fisher @ Coda 03-08-18

Attention all tech house and Dirtybird fans! Fisher is making his long-awaited visit to Toronto (and no, I don’t mean the small mammal) with Embrace presenting his stop here on August 3rd at Coda. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the advance tickets sold out in a matter of hours. Not to worry if you’re a die hard fan though, because there will be a limited amount available at the doors. For those of you who can’t make it, I’ll be back with a review to tell you all about it.

Formerly a pro surfer (uh, can he get any cooler?), Paul Fisher decided to turn his attention onto producing music. To say he’s been successful is an understatement. As soon as his debut Dirtybird track Ya Kidding dropped, heads turned and the scene took notice – check it out below. His tunes are highly energetic and groovy as hell, and his EP “Oi Oi” was highly anticipated for good reason. Stop It and Ya Didn’t quickly became staple tech house tunes, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have them all on repeat at one time or another. Fisher’s mix of deceptively minimalist bass lines mixed with brooding electro synths and rumbling hooks have garnered him the attention he clearly deserves, as well as his online persona. Always seemingly having a blast on and off the stage, this guy emanates fun wherever he goes, and I’m sure this Friday at Coda will be no different.

Chris Larsen, based out of Toronto, is one of the DJs supporting the event, and he has made quite the name for himself in the Toronto scene. He’s played alongside the likes of Nicole Moudaber, Carlo Lio, Green VelvetBilly Kenny… just to name a few. Not to mention he’s made appearances at coveted electronic music festivals and clubs alike, such as Electric Island and Stereo in Montreal. I’ve seen him spin quite a few times, and I certainly never had a complaint. He sets the mood, getting the crowd in a nice groove before the main act. After researching some background information on him, I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s got in store for us! Check out his set from the last time he played at Coda below.

Mikey Palermo is a familiar DJ and up-and-coming producer in Toronto. While trying to find his own musical style, he has experimented with seapunk, juke, and UK garage sounds, eventually finding a place within house music. He is fascinated with e-trendy events in the city and loves keeping up with his online persona (something that Fisher is quite fond of, as well!). I’ve never seen this local artist before, so I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s got. Check out a set from him below from a recent CODA event.

I, for one, cannot wait to put on my dancing shoes and destroy the dance floor during Fisher’s set. As stated above, advance tickets sold out within hours, but there will be a select few tickets at the doors. Arrive super early to snag them and avoid disappointment! It’s going to be a night to remember, and if you can’t be there, I’ll do my best to let you live vicariously through my review (I’m trying not to brag, but I’m heckin’ excited for this one).
