Goantao presents Portal to Paradise with DJ REVIEW: Domino and more @ Sound Xchange 30-07-18

Toronto had the privilege of basking in the wonders and magic of the Goantao family at the end of a hot July at Portal to Paradise – this time featuring an all female lineup. This fresh new face around the psytrance scene lined up the dominoes perfectly that night with DJ Domino headlining and the addition of our local heroes Djane Roch and Sara Dopstar, who burned up the dance floor with their incepting full on beats.

As always, Goantao took the time and care to make sure this was a night to remember. Incredible deco transformed Sound Xchange into a UV psychedelic playground. The stage was fully decked out and every wall had a piece of art, including a custom UV mural of a woman behind the stage. I was surprised by the amount of people that were in attendance at the beginning of the night. The word had definitely spread, as there were more people at this event than the previous Goantao event!

Djane Roch kicked the night off with some fire! She charged straight forward into those full on psy beats with tracks like Are you Nuts by Xerox & Volcano and Psychedelic by Outsiders which had people going nuts! After two hours of destroying the dance floor, Djane Roch stepped off of the decks, and made room for the next DJ to mix in.

Well-known to Toronto’s psytrance community, Sara Dopstar generates crowds because they know she will bring the heat. Sara rips the dance floor apart, track after track, and this night was no exception. There was no stopping her as she laid out tracks like Mad Maxx & Block Device’s Shaky Memories remixed by Static Movement & Cosmic Tone and Nirvana Reach by Lyktum. Nothing less than a stunning performance one of our favourite Canadian psy Superstars!

Once Sara had finished warming up the dance floor, it was time for the main attraction. Visiting “The Six” all the way from Goa, and here to display her unbelievable talents, DJ Domino appeared behind the decks to an amped crowd. Domino quickly proved why she plays alongside some of the biggest names in the psytrance scene and performs at some of the top Goa festivals.

We were graced with four hours of non-stop killer full-on tracks, ranging from heavy psychedelic beats to funky guitars and rock melodies. Infected Mushrooms’ Bust a Move by Bliss and Juno Reactor‘s Guardian Angel remixed by Dino Psaras were just two of the tracks in DJ Domino’s killer set. The crowd gave it their all on that dance floor, and so did I.

Her set sadly had to come to a close, and DJ Domino said her farewell to Toronto. Some psy warriors stuck it out until the very end of the event as DJane Roch and Sara Dopstar returned to the decks together for a B2B set. Eventually the flames these two laid down exhausted the dance floor and the night was ended. Everyone headed out of the club, having experienced an unforgettable night.
