EVENT PREVIEW: Psychedelic Babylon presents Spring Awakening with Sonic Species 29-02-20

Winter’s icy grip on the Six is finally loosening and Psychedelic Babylon is celebrating the coming season shift with their Spring Awakening event on Saturday, February 29th, 2020. I’m personally excited to shake off the winter blues and look forward to spring with some spectacular psytrance beats!

Sonic Species’ star first began to rise in the global psytrance scene with the international success of the project’s debut album, “Unleash the Beat”, via Alchemy Records in 2012. Since his breakout success, Sonic Species has released many more chart-climbers like Tokyo Sunrise, Just Another Freak and The First and the Last, and burned up festival dance floors at Boom, Ozora and our very own Eclipse (back in 2012!) with his energetic but uniquely refreshing sound. He was signed by NANO Records (UK) shortly before dropping his second album and continues to steadily release new material as creative inspiration strikes.

Welcoming collaborative exploration with creative peers, Sonic Species has worked with some of psytrance’s biggest names – Stryker, Mad Maxx, Burn in Noise, Volcano, GMS, Mechanica. Recently, he has been working on releases like Transmission with Avalon under their new duo project Future Frequency. I’m excited to experience his dynamically intense style firsthand this weekend!

Subject 25, an up-and-coming DJ in the Toronto scene, will be providing local support. A longtime lover of great psychedelic beats, Subject 25 was a well-known face in the local psytrance community long before he first stepped behind the decks. He also volunteered as a photographer for our site back when we were still EDM TOR. Inspired to participate more directly and creatively, Subject 25 expanded his horizons when he spun his first party. Loving the experience, he has been dropping sweet beats about the city ever since!

DJ Wolf

Toronto locals, DJ Wolf and Kowabanga will also bring their energy to the decks at Spring Awakening this weekend. Kowabanga has spun at local Cherry Beach gatherings at the Toronto waterfront and begun exploring his DJ talents at the city’s usual psytrance haunts. His full-on energy and progressive influences have been well-received, and he continues to evolve his individual style.

Hailing from Montreal, the progressive psytrance duo project Protocell will also proudly represent the Canadian psytrance scene. Known for the atmosphere they create with their  signature mindbendingly psychedelic sets, Protocell consistently delivers an incredible experience on the dance floor.

Late Owl tier tickets are still available here for $45, so grab yours now! The event location will be announced 24 hours beforehand, so keep an eye on the event page for updates! See you there!
