NEST3-1

Last December, the Skrillex led label OWSLA and the non-profit electronic music organization Bridges for Music teamed together to build a new music studio in Langa, Cape Town. This was achieved when OWSLA started Nestivus (a Christmas themed give away) on their online subscription “The Nest” which lowered the cost of their monthly $12 fee for new members who joined the music distribution service.  All subscribers during this time also received brand new remixes, downloads and merchandise while all proceeds from the sales went to charity.

The result was nonetheless amazing. By the end of Nestivus, $7692.46 had been raised from old and new subscribers and increased social interaction on the site. These funds greatly assisted Bridges for Music in building a brand new music studio in Langa, Cape Town, South Africa, a township where the house music scene is booming with the young crowd.  Bridges for Music actively helps third world countries in developing their electronic music scene, leaving a positive image in their wake and helping raise global awareness about local issues through music.

Bridges for Music now is in the process of creating the first school dedicated to music and multimedia in the Cape Town area, which will give a lot of up and coming artists in the local area to use the facilities to their will and hone in on their craft and creative abilities.  This will help the local music scene shine and thrive and hopefully give those who are unfortunate a chance at expressing themselves to the world through music.
