On Friday August 1st, Embrace brought us Gesaffelstein for another sold out Focus Friday event at The Hoxton. Many people came for the French industrial house artist, but the day of the show, Embrace announced the openers and gave us a pleasant surprise.

Local Toronto DJ Colin Clark, who opened for A-trak this past June, started off the night with all good vibes, playing many variations of house including a deep house remix of Kiesza‘s big track Hideaway. It created a vibe where everyone got lost in the music and seemed more than pleased.

Prince Club came to the stage soon after and raised the energy levels again, playing a lot of classic house and retro vibes. He made the crowd feel like we time travelled back into another decade and kept the beats fresh and steady. It’s amazing how the music can dictate the crowd, as I didn’t meet a single rude person that night, but instead just lots of people who shared a passion for house music. The Montreal DJ sure seemed responsible for all these music lovers to instantly bond and dance the night away. Yet, we still knew the night was far from over at that point.

Gesaffelstein came to the stage around 1am and the dance floor became even more packed. The classy man sported a blazer and white blouse while he spun a wicked set. He had complete control over the crowd with his turntables. He saved a couple original tracks for the end of the set, being Hate or Glory and Pursuit. As soon as the crowd recognized these iconic tracks, a mosh pit opened up and the crowd went nuts. The last ten minutes of his set turned into a hardstyle-industrial house vibe.

If you’re a fan of Gesaffelstein, don’t forget to check out his Facebook page, as he recently posted an exclusive remix of his own track Hate or Glory. I have a feeling there’s a lot more to come from this artist, and I can’t wait to see what he’ll do next with his talent!
